"God has a very special plan for each of your lives, and wants you to know Him personally. Remember that no problem you will ever have is too big for Him to handle. No matter what happens, God always has your best interests in mind. That means that God always does what is best for you - even when it seems hard. He loves each of you very much."

Lance Corporal Antoine Demetrius Smith

The most precious gift of life, Antoine Demetrius "Toine" Smith, was born on November 3, 1982 in Miami Florida to Deborah Ann Smith and Lawrence Shiver. When Antoine was 2 weeks old, his mother got on her knees, placed her hand on him, and prayed:

"Lord, Antoine is your son, not mine, as I am your daughter. You only lent him to me to rear with Your love. Do not let him follow me when I sin, for I am a sinner. Only let him keep his eyes on You and follow You. You can take him back home whenever You want, and I will treasure the time You allow him with me. But I will always miss and love him."

Antoine's education began at home under the guidance of his mother. When he was only 12 months, she would spend 30 minutes at a time in a grocery store isle teaching him colors and sounds by looking at the various produce, counting items.

By age 3-1/2 he knew colors and shapes, the small and capital letters, and could count from 1 to 100. He attended James E. Scott pre-school near Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, and Little River Elementary, where he excelled to the point that he was placed in the Stirrup Magnet School with Toine and his violahonors.

Antoine attended Horace Mann Middle School where he was in Chorus and Orchestra, and he played baseball.

In the summer of 1996, Antoine and his mom relocated to Orlando, where he attended Westridge Middle School.

In order to gain acceptance into Dr. Phillips High School, Antoine was required to audition by playing, and he successfully proved himself capable to the task.

At school he was known as a shy, respectable student who had a slight stutter. He was involved in the Dr. Phillips Orchestra, where he earned second chair, and numerous awards and ribbons.

We was also in the Delayed Entry Marine Corps Program. He graduated form Dr. Phillips on May 21, 2001.
